About Us

The Past, Present and Future

Since its launch in Australia back in 1998, ASYLUM 7 has been committed to providing exciting, unique, and most importantly affordable corsetry.
Owner Suzanne McRae has been involved with both theatre costume production and clothing design for many years, and the result of these experiences is ASYLUM 7.

Many of the designs created by ASYLUM 7 will not be seen anywhere else, and we are proud to say that we do not follow the pack!

The Nuts and Bolts

The materials used in ASYLUM 7 clothing are of high quality, with the items themselves constructed to withstand long-term wear. All nickel plated boot eyelets and studs are reinforced with metal washers to prevent damage of fabric. The corset boning used is strong heavyweight plastic, which is extremely supportive and durable. We do not use thin, lightweight, easily bent plastic in any designs. All corset lining is soft satin, which can also be customised in any colour upon request. To interface our corsets we use the heaviest cotton drill we can find in double layers for strength, plus gauze interfacing on eyelet panels. You can request extra interfacing for weight at an additional charge. Just email us to get the lowdown!

Love and Care

We suggest that you store your corsets in a dry and dark environment to prevent damage. Sun, moisture, wind, and heat can play a part in lessening the life and appearance of your corset, so a dry cupboard or box is ideal. Try to keep your corsets rolled loosely without pressure on eyelets or lacing, and be aware that velveteen will be permanently imprinted if lacing is wound tightly around it!

Dry cleaning is the best way to keep your corsets spic and span, but simple styles without many trims can be gently handwashed in warm or cold water with the appropriate cleaning detergent. Always lay your wet corsets flat on absorbent towels to dry as quickly as possible.

Returns and Refunds

As each corset is made individually after ordering, we can only offer you a return on faulty workmanship or fabric damage.

Unfortunately we cannot accept returns for change of mind, as too much work goes into each order for us to have it sent back for no good reason!

Any returns must first be cleared by email and agreed to by us beforehand, and the corset must be received at ASYLUM 7 before we will send out a replacement. If we receive a corset back that has not previously been cleared for return, you will regrettably lose your payment.

We cannot accept returns if you have mistakenly ordered the wrong size, as each measurement is clearly listed on the 'Sizing' page. If you have had a custom measurement corset made and the sizing is not what you asked for, then of course we will be happy to refund or remake your order. All custom corsets are double checked before they are mailed, so this is an unlikely occurrence!
